There was no single reference point for how people danced to the Muwashahat earlier on. The Muwashahat is a genre of 10th century Arabic poetry and musical traditions which was given a new perspective in the 1970's, by the famous Egyptian choreographer, Mahmoud Reda. He choreographed and presented the muwashah as a dance spectacle on a stage for the first time in modern history. He invented this new genre of dance by imagining how the rhythmic patterns and strophic lyrics in this type of music should be expressed, while adhering to Middle Eastern aesthetics and cultural norms. Join this class to learn more about the history, the basic construct for Muwashahat technique under the Reda School of Thought and a foundation level choreography set to Ja'at Mua'athibathi by the legendary Fayrouz - a timeless song steeped in elegant poetry.
